Armed Forces life leaves very little time for tax paperwork, so it pays to be organised about it. If you're going to be deployed away from home when the new tax year ticks over on the 6th of April, a little forethought now will save a ton of hassle later. If you can't spare the time yourself, you can always authorise a partner or family member to talk to RIFT instead, keeping the wheels turning when you're not available.

Remember: a tax refund is your money, but HMRC will keep it every year unless you prove what you're owed. Whenever you're travelling for work or shelling out for food and essential work expenses, you're owed tax back – even when you're deployed overseas.
