With Armed Forces Day coming up on the 24th of June, it's time to take another look at the latest news from our partners ABF The Soldiers' Charity.

As you probably already know, we work closely with the charity to support the needs of former and serving MOD personnel. During Armed Forces Day this year, we'll be hosting a RIFT Camp Cookout to raise money for them.  You can find out more about the events going on up and down the country at the official site. Now for some announcements and updates from ABF The Soldiers' Charity:

  • Nail-biting climax to the 2nd Annual City Invitational Cup
As we first reported back in April, the City Invitational took place on the 31st of May at the Honourable Artillery Company in London. The event was held in support of The Soldiers' Charity, and brought the total raised by the HAC's partnership with the charity to over £100,000. The match itself saw the City Select XI earning the win with a thrilling four from the game's final bowl. Congratulations and thanks to everyone who participated or contributed.

  • Dinner with the Ragtime Dolls
On the 9th of June, close harmony singing group The Ragtime Dolls will be performing at the Tornacoille in Banchory on Royal Deeside. The Dolls specialise in songs from the 20s and 40s but also wander into more modern times – albeit with a touch of classic vintage flair. Tickets are £35, and it's all in aid of The Soldiers' Charity.

  • Hyundai sponsors Newton Abbot charity golf day
18 holes of golf and a 2-course carvery meal are on offer on the 14th of June at Dainton Park Golf Club in Ipplepen Newton Abbot. Hyundai are sponsoring holes-in-one at each of the four par-3s, and top prize for the 8th hole will be one of their i20 SEs! Tickets go for £47 for non-members. Members can get involved for only £28.

  • Golf not your thing? Have you tried crolf?
Crolf, we're told, is a combination of golf and croquet. It uses metal hoops called “hools” and players compete to finish the course in the lowest number of strokes. Fancy a go? Well, you'll get your chance at the competition being held on the 17th of June at Downes House in Crediton. You'll need a team of 4, and the £12 tickets include a supremely civilised combination of Cream tea and Pimms.

  • Somme Centenary Film and Concert Evening
Remastered with a Laura Rossi soundtrack commissioned by The Imperial War Museum, the 1916 classic film, The Battle of the Somme is coming to Worcester Cathedral on the 16th of June. There's also going to be a talk from the museum's Senior Curator, Dr. Toby Haggith. You can get tickets from Worcester Live by phoning 01905 611427.

  • East Anglia go Kart Event
If you're feeling the need for speed, you can enter a 6-person team for a 6-hour endurance race at Anglia Indoor Karting in Ipswich. The rules are simple. Each team gets a cart, then whichever of them scores the most laps within the time limit wins! The entrance fee is £250 per person, and it all goes to ABF The Soldiers' Charity.

That's it for another month with The Soldiers' Charity. Check back here and follow us on Facebook each month for more news and important dates for your calendar.
