REFER A FRIEND FULL TERMS & CONDITIONS

1. Meaning of certain words

In these terms:
“We”, “us” and “our” refer to RIFT Tax Refunds, a trading name of RIFT Ltd, incorporated in England and Wales (Company number: 04088211). Our registered office is The Cobalt Building, 1600 Eureka Park, Upper Pemberton, Ashford, Kent, TN25 4BF.

1.1 Definitions:

  • The “referrer” is the individual who provides the name and contact details of a family member, friend, or colleague to allow RIFT to contact them about our tax refund service.
  • The “referee” is the individual whose name and contact details have been provided to RIFT by a referrer.

2. Eligibility

2.1 By taking part in the Refer a Friend scheme, you (“the referrer”) agree to these Terms and Conditions.

2.2 Referrers must agree to these Terms & Conditions to be eligible for referral payments linked to the Refer a Friend scheme. Registration with RIFT and use of the Refer a Friend page on our app or website is considered acceptance of these Terms & Conditions.

2.3 This Refer a Friend scheme is only open to United Kingdom residents aged 18 or over, excluding employees of RIFT, their associated companies, agents, third parties or anyone else professionally connected with this scheme. Proof of employment may be required.

2.4 Whilst it is not necessary for referrers to have completed a filed claim with RIFT to enter, they are required to register with RIFT to receive a unique reference number and link, via which referrals can be made.

2.5 The person referred must not have registered with RIFT prior to the referral. If they have previously registered with RIFT, no referral payment will be made. If the same person is referred to RIFT by two different referrers, any subsequent referrer’s payment will be made to the referrer who made the first referral, as recorded by RIFT.

2.6 Bulk applications made from trade, consumer groups or third parties will not be accepted. Incomplete or illegible applications, by or via third parties or syndicates, applications by macros or other automated means (including systems which can be programmed to apply), and entries which do not satisfy the requirements of these terms and conditions in full will be disqualified and will not be counted. If it becomes apparent that a referrer is using a computer(s) to circumvent this condition by, for example, the use of ‘script’, ‘brute force’, masking their identity by manipulating IP addresses, using identities other than their own or any other automated means in order to increase that referrals in a way that is not consistent with the spirit of the Refer a Friend scheme, that person’s referrals will be disqualified and any reward payment will be void.

2.7 RIFT shall have the right, where necessary, to undertake all such action as is reasonable to protect itself against fraudulent or invalid claims including, without limitation, to require further verification as to the identity, age, and other relevant details of a claimant.

2.8 RIFT reserves the right at its absolute discretion to disqualify referrers whom it considers do not comply with these terms and conditions.

2.9 By entering the Refer a Friend scheme, the referrer agrees to release RIFT from any liability whatsoever for any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with the Refer a Friend scheme or with the acceptance, possession, attendance at or use of any coupon (except death or personal injury caused by RIFT’s negligence, for fraud, or otherwise as prohibited by law).

3. How to enter

3.1 There are 3 distinct ways to enter Refer a Friend. These are as follows:

  • 3.1.1 The referrer can directly enter the referee’s name and contact details (either an email address and/or mobile phone number) into the RIFT Refunds app.
  • 3.1.2 The referrer can enter the referee’s name and contact details (an email address and/or mobile phone number) into the RIFT Refer a Friend website page, including the referrer’s unique reference number.
  • 3.1.2.1 Referrers should use the unique link provided to them via email to the Refer a Friend page.
  • 3.1.3 The referrer can call 01233 628648 and provide the referee’s contact details (either an email address or mobile phone number).


4. The reward

4.1 From 9th February 2026, eligible referrers will receive:

  • £100 for their first successful referral (the first referee from the referrer who completes a tax refund claim filed with HMRC).
  • £50 for each subsequent successful referral.

4.2 Referrers who refer 1 or more people to RIFT, who file a tax refund claim, will be classed as a VIP and offered  choice of monthly rewards in the RIFT Tax Refund app. (see section 5 below)

4.3 As part of any promotions, RIFT reserves the right to change this payment amount. Please see section 8 below for details of any current promotions.

4.4 All referrer payments will be made to the specified bank account held against the Referrer in our database. Any cheque payments will be posted to the referrer at the address given at the time when the referrer registered with RIFT. It is the responsibility of the referrer to inform RIFT of any subsequent change of bank details or address. Failure to do so may result in the loss of payments. In such instances, RIFT does not accept responsibility for the loss of referrer payment, and it is at the discretion of RIFT as to whether a further payment will be made. RIFT reserves the right to amend reward values for promotional periods. Any such promotions will be communicated clearly on RIFT’s website or app.

4.5 Referral payments will be made in relation to claims filed for the referee, within two weeks of the claim being filed with H M Revenue & Customs. Claims are typically filed within 4-6 weeks of confirmation that a claim is due, but this is not guaranteed.

5. VIP Rewards Programme

5.1 Referrers who make one or more successful referrals will automatically qualify for VIP status.

5.2 Becoming a VIP is based on a successful referral being completed.  A successful referral is one where the referee completes a tax refund claim with us, and this is filed with HMRC. Entry is therefore not based on the date the referral was made, but the date on which the claim was filed with HMRC.

5.3 VIPs are entered into monthly reward activities, and the VIP has the option to choose from a selection of rewards which may vary at RIFT’s discretion. The monthly reward activities are detailed in section 6.

5.4 RIFT reserves the right at its absolute discretion to disqualify referrers whom it considers do not comply with these terms and conditions and to change the qualifying criteria and/or prizes for any future promotions, not yet started.

5.5 There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this programme. 

6. The VIP monthly rewards

6.1 VIPs are given a choice of monthly rewards, which may include:

  • Scratchcard prizes, where VIPs have a chance to win a set cash amount when scratching a virtual scratchcard. The odds of winning are calculated based on the number of VIPs that RIFT has at the time, alongside a set reward budget.
  • Vouchers, issued to selected VIPs in recognition of ongoing referrals.
  • Monthly prize draws, with one or more prizes available.

6.2 Referrers will only be able to choose one of the options each month.

6.3 The number and type of rewards available each month may vary. Winners are selected at random from eligible VIPs.

6.4 Rewards are non-transferable.

6.5 RIFT reserves the right to change or withdraw VIP reward types at any time, while honouring any rewards already won.

6.6 All prize draw payments will be made to the specified bank account held against the Referrer in our database. It is the responsibility of the referrer to inform RIFT of any subsequent change of bank details or address. Failure to do so may result in the loss of payments. In such instances, RIFT does not accept responsibility for the loss of referrer payment, and it is at the discretion of RIFT as to whether a further payment will be made.

6.7 Scratchcard prizes Terms & Conditions

6.7.1 Eligible referrers will receive access to one digital Scratchcard per month, available via the RIFT App, unless they choose the Prize Draw or Voucher instead

6.7.2 Each Scratchcard provides an instant result upon play, participants will immediately see whether they have won or not.

6.7.3 Prizes available may include cash payments, digital vouchers, or other promotional rewards as specified on the Scratchcard.

6.7.4 Winners of instant-win prizes will receive their prize within 14 days of verification, with all prize payments made once per week.

6.7.5 Prizes are non-transferable, non-exchangeable, and no cash alternative is available unless stated. RIFT reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value if necessary.

6.7.6 Unclaimed prizes may be forfeited after 30 days.

6.7.7 RIFT accepts no responsibility for technical issues, delays, or failures that prevent Scratchcard plays or notifications from being received.

6.8 Monthly Prize Draw Prizes Terms & Conditions

6.8.1 Every eligible referrer who selects to enter the Monthly Prize Draw will be entered into the draw for  that calendar month.

6.8.2 The winner will be selected at random from all entries, using an independently verified process at the start of the following month.

6.8.3 The Prize Draw winner will be contacted by email and/or telephone within 14 days of selection.

6.8.4 If the winner does not respond within 14 days, RIFT reserves the right to reselect a new winner.

6.8.5 The prize for each monthly draw will be stated in the RIFT App at the start of each month.

6.8.6 Winner/s of the Prize Draw will receive their prize within 7 days of verification, with all prize payments made once per week.

6.8.7 Prizes are non-transferable, non-exchangeable, and no cash alternative is available unless stated. RIFT reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value if necessary.

6.8.8 Unclaimed prizes may be forfeited after 30 days.

6.8.9 RIFT accepts no responsibility for technical issues, delays, or failures that prevent Scratchcard plays or notifications from being received.

6.8.10 The prize draw winner/s agrees to the use of his/her name and image in any publicity material, as well as their entry. Any personal data relating to the winner, or any other entrants will be used solely in accordance with current UK data protection legislation and will not be disclosed to a third party without the entrant's prior consent.

6.9 Monthly Voucher Terms & Conditions

6.9.1 Each month, RIFT will make a limited number of digital vouchers available to eligible referrers on a first come, first served basis.

6.9.2 The monthly voucher offer will open at the start of each calendar month and will close once all available vouchers have been claimed, or by 11:59pm on the final day of that month, whichever comes first.

6.9.3 Only one voucher may be claimed per eligible referrer per month.

6.9.4 Vouchers are available while supplies last and are distributed in the order that qualifying referrals are confirmed by RIFT.

6.9.5 The voucher type, value, and total quantity available each month will be shown on the RIFT website and/or app.

6.9.6 Vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash, transferred to another person, or used in conjunction with any other RIFT promotional offer.

6.9.7 No responsibility will be accepted for vouchers not received due to incorrect contact details, technical issues, or delays outside RIFT’s control.

6.9.8 RIFT reserves the right to substitute the voucher with another of equal or greater value or to withdraw the monthly voucher promotion at any time without notice.

6.9.9 By claiming a monthly voucher, the referrer agrees to be bound by these Terms & Conditions and any additional terms relating to the specific voucher provider (e.g. One4All, Amazon, or other retailers).

7. Data Protection

7.1 RIFT will only use personal data provided by the referrer and referee for administering the Refer a Friend scheme.

7.2 Personal data will be processed in accordance with RIFT’s Privacy Policy, available at www.riftrefunds.co.uk/privacy-and-cookies.

8. Prize draws & promotions

8.1 RIFT may run additional promotional draws or limited-time offers for referrers.

8.2 Each promotion will have its own terms and conditions, published on the RIFT website or app at the time.

The Refer a Friend scheme is governed by English law.
