Construction Sales Staff
Here's a few examples of tax refunds we've claimed back for construction sales staff
A sales executive using our Rapid Refund service found she had a total claim of around £2,400, covering 3 years of travel in her own vehicle. This is despite getting a mileage allowance of 25p per mile from her employer. Her case really isn't unusual, either. You can claim back tax for up to 4 years, so many people find they've get several years' worth of refunds to claim. Looking into her travel, we found that she clocked up around 100 miles a day, or just over 20,000 miles per year! All told, those miles were costing her about £7,000 yearly, with only £3,000 being reimbursed by her employer. On top of that, she had over £1,000 of food costs from eating while on the road. As she'd chosen our Rapid Refund option, she had her money refunded within 24 hours of RIFT filing her claim.
A sales executive spoke to a RIFT representative who was on site helping construction workers with their forms. One short conversation later, she was well on her way to claiming back the tax she was owed by HMRC for 3 years' work travel. Her mileage came to an impressive 13,000 to 16,000 miles per year in her own vehicle. She was also spending around £1,000 on meals and hot drinks while travelling. She drove a company car for a while, which meant a change in her tax code, but RIFT took care of that as part of our service. Her employer was only paying her 15-20p per mile after the first 300 miles each year. As a result, RIFT was able to put a whopping £2,350 back in her purse. She's become a regular RIFT client now, and always gets her paperwork in on the first week of the tax year. She even makes a little extra by recommending RIFT to her colleagues through our Refer a Friend scheme.
One slightly more complicated case was a sales representative who had changed employers several times over the previous 3 years. Some of them had partially reimbursed him for his travel, some had covered the costs entirely while others had offered nothing at all. RIFT, of course, has a lot of experience in complicated refund claims, so were able to sort out exactly what he was owed. Travelling between 6,000 and 8,500 miles a year over 100 to 500 journeys meant he had a total of 1040 trips to claim for. On top of that, he was spending £4 a day on food while travelling. The end result was a £2,287 refund for him and another happy client for RIFT!
